It’s a pretty good time to be a fan of the New York Mets.

The Mets sit the best record in the National League at 40-22. They hold a 5.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East and 9 games over the Philadelphia Phillies.

But they went just 5-5 over the last 10 games. Atlanta has made up five games in the that span and the Phillies have made up four. If New York blows its lead over the next 100 games, it’ll have just one man to blame.

New York Radio Host Makes Bold Claim About Mets

Meet Sal Licata.

Licata is an overnight radio host in New York and the host of the show Baseball Night in New York. Sal had some bold claims to make back on May 31.

Licata’s prediction that the division was already over isn’t too farfetched. After all, New York already had a double-digit lead over the rest of the division and the Braves and Phillies were spiraling.

But since that prediction, both Atlanta and Philly have woken up and the Mets  have had even more injury troubles. Ronald Acuna is back and the Braves are on first, winning 11 straight. The Phillies ditched Joe Girardi and have won 9 of 10. And injuries have continued to pile up for New York.

While the Mets still have a 5.5 game lead, there’s still 100 games to play. Fans of both Atlanta and Philly have made note of Licata’s brave proclamation.

Should the Mets do what the Mets are prone to do, we’ll pray for our pal Sal.
