REPORT: Kyrie Irving’s Proposed Deal To The Lakers Has Stalled, And He May Just Be Stuck In Brooklyn

  • Following Kevin Durant’s trade request, Kyrie Irving reportedly wants to leave the Brooklyn Nets as well.
  • Irving appears to have his heart dead set on a move to the Los Angeles Lakers where he’d team with LeBron James again.
  • Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that there’s “no traction” on a deal between the two teams right now.

Lakers fans might want to look away.

It appears Los Angeles will have at least one more year of Russell Westbrook alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. At least according the latest reports.

Shams Charania of The Athletic went on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and had the following to say.

“There’s no traction on any type of a Lakers deal for Kyrie Irving. So there’s nothing new on that. And I’m not quite sure we’re going to see that take place,” Charania said of a prospective deal.

Irving reportedly has LA atop his list of destinations.

While the report could well be posturing on the side of the Nets, it also makes sense. The Lakers would have to match salary and send back Russell Westbrook, who himself has become unpopular in LA due to his poor play. And Los Angeles has very little else to trade in terms of young players or draft assets.

Charania also spoke about the Nets trying to appease Kevin Durant’s trade quest, and that also appears far away.

Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks appears ready to dig in for the long haul rather than give away his star players for pennies on the dollar. Whether he stands by that in the coming days and weeks is yet to be seen. But it’s certainly not great news for Lakers or Phoenix Suns fans, or anyone else hoping to acquire the All-Star players.
