Read the title again, and then imagine reading that title a few years ago. Deion Sanders, legendary NFL cornerback and larger-than-life personality, is taking over as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. Primetime served as the head coach at Jackson State for the past three years. He went 27-5 there, including an undefeated 12-0 season this year. He also landed the nation’s top recruit, Travis Hunter, last year.

Meanwhile, the Buffs have fallen on hard times. One of the traditional power programs of the old Big 8, the program has been terrible. This year was rock-bottom, as they went 1-11 and were widely considered the worst power 5 team in America under Karl Dorrell.

Athletic Director Rick George swung for the fences, and he got his man.

Deion Sanders arrived in Boulder, Colorado Saturday Night as Colorado’s new head coach

Shortly after Jackson State’s 43-24 win over Southern in the SWAC championship game, Sanders announced to his team he was taking the job at Colorado.

Soon after, it was confirmed by CU.

And, at 12:54 AM local time Sunday Morning, he touched down in Colorado.

It’s hard to know what this means longterm for Sanders and Colorado. But, one thing is for sure. A lot more people will care about the Buffs than they did yesterday.

Coach Prime will coach in the Celebration Bowl later this month.
