It’s been over a week since we learned that Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka would be suspended for the entire 2022-2023 season due to a relationship with a female subordinate.

Details have been scarce since, other than that the relationship eventually became inappropriate and complaints were made against Udoka. Many wanted to hear more details about what exactly had gone on, and now we are getting them.

ESPN released new details surrounding Ime Udoka’s suspension

On Friday, ESPN released new details about the suspension.

It read, in part

The independent law firm probe into Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka found that he used crude language in his dialogue with a female subordinate prior to the start of an improper workplace relationship with the woman, an element that significantly factored into the severity of his one-year suspension, sources told ESPN.

Those investigative findings — which described verbiage on Udoka’s part that was deemed especially concerning coming from a workplace superior — contribute to what is likely a difficult pathway back to his reinstatement as Celtics coach in 2023, sources told ESPN.

The power dynamic associated with a superior’s improper relationship with a staff member was the primary finding and policy violation cited in the law firm’s report, which was commissioned by the Celtics and completed early last week, sources said.

That’s some added context that we did not have before. And, the key part of that is that this is going to make it hard for Udoka to return to the Celtics. Many had assumed that he would be back after this season. But, it doesn’t appear to be straightforward.

NBA Fans React To Latest News on Ime Udoka

This has been a hot topic for NBA fans since the story came out. But, with the news today, people had new reactions regarding the situation.

@stillnez216 on twitter said

You can tell Ime Udoka f***** the wife of somebody who was important because how the hell was crude language a factor in firing him and how does it lead into a consensual relationship.

Obviously she liked what he was texting and was on go once he texted it.

He makes a valid point. This had to have been someone’s wife who the Celtics franchise valued immensely.

This is another angle as well. Will the Celtics try to bury Udoka so much that no other franchise gets the coach who led them to the NBA finals in his first year in the league?

I think this scenario is certainly possible.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
